Laguna del Diamante is a lake located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, in the San Carlos Department, some 198 km from Mendoza. It covers a surface area of about 14.1 km² and is one of the largest freshwater resources in the Province. Nearby is Maipo volcano. The volcano and its reflection in the lake forms diamond-shape image, which gives the lake its name. It is known for its stunning beauty. However, few get the chance to see it because it is passable only in February and only via an off-road vehicle.

Day 1: Mendoza - Laguna del Diamante
Early in the morning at 6.00AM, departure from your hotel in Mendoza. In in wheel drive vehicles (4x4). We go to the South of Mendoza city, via the legendary Route 40, towards the Natural Reserve Laguna del Diamante, located in San Carlos in the middle of the Andes Mountain Range. After one and a half hour we reach Refugio Alvarado, the Rangers' point of control. Then the mountain road climbs close to a stream, home to many guanacos and birds, until it reaches 3.500 meters in Pampa de los Avestruces.
We then descend into a beautiful valley and catch sight of this stunning high altitude lake (3,300m absl) overlooked by the snowcapped Maipo volcano. Here we fish in the crystal clear lake for rainbow trout.
We also enjoy a picnic lunch of cold meats, cheeses and wine in an area famous for its scenery and Andean wildlife, notably eagles, condors and guanacos. We try a range of wines including Cabernet and Malbec.
In the morning we fish in the lagoon with waders using sinking lines with coloured flies. Here we will find plenty of medium sized brook and some bigger rainbow and brown trout. At 1 pm we stop for lunch and after that we’ll continue fishing in the Diamante River, where we will have the opportunity for dry and nymph fishing.
Día 2: Laguna del Diamante - Mendoza
After a delicious breakfast, we will begin the second day of activities in the reserve. We will continue practicing sport fishing and taking short walks in around the lagoon. At mid day we are meeting and sharing a picnic lunch. After a brief rest, we resumed the road to enjoy the last hours in the reserve.
